THE STORY SO FAR

We are a church mission plant from Portimão Portuguese Baptist church. The first few people to come down to Lagos started to meet in a home in the early days. When the present building was opened late in 2001 these few people started to worship there on a Sunday whilst continuing to meet in a home situation mid-week.

During this time David and Linda Chester had been responsible for the work, being accountable to Pastor Norman Harrell back in Portimão. When Norman and his wife Gunita returned to the USA, David was ordained as minister and recognised by the European Baptist Convention and his two sending churches back in the UK.

In March 2006 we became a member church, the 2nd in Portugal, of the Newfrontiers family of churches.

The congregation has continued to grow and many other activities have begun, including Mums & Tots, Portuguese Lessons, Men's and Ladies breakfasts & other social and outreach events.

OUR PURPOSE (why we exist)

To be “ the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world” (Matt 5:13-16)

(1) The houshold of god

We seek to live and model extended family and caring community under the lordship of Jesus Christ, thus contrasting the kingdom of God with the kingdom of darkness. We seek to be prominent within our local English speaking community, like a city set upon a hill, which cannot be hidden, by contributing to its development and welfare.

(2) DISCIPLES OF JESUS CHRIST

We seek to genuinely obey and follow Jesus Christ and to make disciples who mature and multiply.

(3) WORSHIP GOD

We seek to praise and worship God in spirit and in truth, the creator God of all that exists, the Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

(4) SERVING GOD AND ONE ANOTHER

We seek to discover, develop and use our spiritual gifts that God has given us, and t any other gifts He wants to equip us with, in order to build one another up in love and to minister.

(5) REACHING OUT TO OTHERS

We seek to get involved with our local community so as to exercise a godly influence and to lead others to a personal faith in Jesus. We seek to play our part in seeing God’s Kingdom established here in the Algarve.
