OUR VISION (What we intend to do)
(1) To become a Christian community where the
hurting, depressed, frustrated & confused can find love, acceptance, help,
hope, forgiveness, guidance & encouragement; where the damaged & enslaved
can find healing & release & where all experience their lives being
transformed by the power of God.
(2) To share the good news of Jesus Christ &
the practical love of God with as many as possible of those living in the
Lagos area & beyond.
(3) To double our congregation by 2008.
(4) To bring people to spiritual maturity
through evangelism, nurture, commitment, discipleship & ministry.
(5) To equip every believer for ministry by
helping them to discover their spiritual gifts, & the natural talent God has
given them.
(6) To serve the community in which we live. (
i.e.:- Mums & Tots.)
(7) To strengthen marriages & honour, equip the
family life.
(8) To see all members involved in salt & light
projects.
MAKING DISCIPLES WHO MATURE & MULTIPLY.
MAKING
. Jesus commanded us to make disciples.
We are co-workers with God in
this process but our part is essential. Only God can cause someone to be
born again. Only the Holy Spirit can bring about their transformation into
the likeness of Christ. But only true disciples of Jesus can make others His
disciples (Matt 28:18-20).
DISCIPLES
A disciple is
one who takes Jesus as his teacher, learns from Him, is obedient to Him,
follows Him & develops a personal relationship with him. Disciples are
wholeheartedly committed to Jesus. They have accepted that they are no
longer their own but belong to the one who died for them.
WHO MATURE
Disciples
are no longer to conform to the patterns of this world but to be transformed
into the likeness of Jesus. The goal of a disciples process of growth is
maturity, measuring up to the full stature of Christ (Eph 4:13). We are to
put childish ways behind us, something which needs to be done with decision
& finality, literally reducing every childish response to inactivity
(1 Cor. 13:11, 14:20).
AND MULTIPLY
Jesus has
chosen & appointed us to go & bear fruit which lasts, a reference to use
telling others the good news of the death & resurrection of Jesus on their
behalf, leading to their becoming Christians themselves (John 15:16). We
are to make disciples of all nations (all ethnic groups) which means our
responsibility is not only to Lagos but to the whole world.
OUR PERSONAL COMMITMENT
Having received Jesus Christ as
my Lord & Saviour, having been baptised & being in agreement with the
International Community churches Statement of Faith, Values, Purposes,
Vision. I believe the Holy Sprit is leading me to become a member. In so
doing, I commit myself to God & to the other members to do the following:-
(1)
Protect & promote the unity of my church.
by speaking & acting in love
towards other members (1Peter 1:22).
by refusing to listen to, or
engage in gossip (Eph 4:20)
by respecting & submitting
to all those in leadership positions (Heb 13:17).
(2)
I will share in the evangelistic & mission responsibility of my church
by praying for the unsaved &
for those seeking to reach them (Rom 10:1; Eph 6:19,20).
by sharing my faith &
inviting outsiders to church activities (Acts 1:8; Ph 6).
by warmly welcoming &
befriending those who visit us (Matt. 2:39; Luke 7:34).
(3)
I will serve in the ministry of my church
by seeking, discovering &
using spiritual gifts & natural talents to serve others (1Peter 4:10)
by being ministered to &
equipped by all who seek to help me (Eph. 4:12.13)
by a commitment to go on to
maturity, & to develop a servant heart (John 13:15)
(4)
I will support the testimony of my church
by seeking to be faithful in
prayer, in Bible study & regular giving (1Cor. 16:)
by abiding in Christ &
living a godly life (Phil. 1:27)
by active participation in
& loyal support of church activities (Heb10:25)
(5)
I will faithfully give myself to the outworking of the vision of my church
by personal involvement &
financial commitment as the Lord enables me (1 Cor. 15:58; 16:2)
by maintaining loving, loyal
support for & co-operation with leadership decisions (2Cor. 8:5; 1 Th. 5
:12,13)
by serving others rather
than expecting others to serve me (Matt. 20:28; Gal. 5:13)
